Summary:
|
Whereas, the SNAP Gap grant provides a funding opportunity to school districts to assist families with accessing critical SNAP benefits (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program); and Whereas, the New Jersey Department of Agriculture (NJDA) will distribute one-time payments up to $60,000 to no less than 10 school districts with the highest gap between free and reduced meal applications and SNAP participation in New Jersey; and Whereas, the Newark Board of Education applied for funding to conduct outreach by hiring new staff and supplement current staff salaries to follow up with eligible families by utilizing the district’s portal to obtain SNAP benefit information and inform families how to obtain assistance with filling out the SNAP application; and Whereas, the SNAP Gap funding is to be used in the 2021-2022 school year and will be managed by the Office of Food Services. |
