Summary:
|
WHEREAS, quotations were electronically received on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 after public advertisement for Local Foods for Schools. Request for quotations were issued to seven (7) vendors with three (3) vendors responding; and WHEREAS, the Newark Board of Education received a Local Food for Schools grant from the New Jersey Department of Agriculture for purchasing local foods; and WHEREAS, all food purchased must be whole, unprocessed or minimally processed and must meet the definition of local. Local is defined as domestic products grown and sourced in New Jersey; and WHEREAS, in accordance of NJSA 18A:18A-5a (6), the District is authorized to award a contract without public advertisement for food supplies; and WHEREAS, the District’s request for quotation and the vendor’s response will become the contract; and WHEREAS, the contract term is October 1, 2023 through August 31, 2024; and WHEREAS, the recommendation for award of term contracts have been reviewed and approved by Elayier Pickett, Interim Director of Food and Nutrition Services. |

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Newark Board of Education accepts and approves the award of term contract for Local Foods for Schools commencing October 1, 2023 through August 31, 2024 to the vendors identified below in care of the Food and Nutrition Services Department at a cost not to exceed two hundred and twenty-five thousand dollars ($225,000.00). Seashore Fruit and Produce Co., Vineland, NJ The Common Market, Philadelphia, NJ EXPLANATION: To provide the students of the Newark Board of Education with a fresh, nutritious and balanced meal. |
