Summary:
|
Whereas, AAPI New Jersey is a nonprofit organization with a mission to create a more inclusive community by uplifting the varied experiences of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, advocating for AAPI rights and representation, and promoting awareness and education around AAPI culture and history; and
Whereas, AAPI New Jersey is collaborating with Audible and their Asians@Audible employee group on a new project called Love Your Lunch with the Newark Public Schools’ kindergarten classrooms. The goal of the campaign is to fight the lunch-shaming commonly experienced by Asian American and other students who bring culturally diverse foods to school; and
Whereas, AAPI New Jersey would like to donate three books for each kindergarten teacher, copies of the Educator Guide, Parent/Caregiver Guide, and Art Template for teachers as part of the Love Your Lunch Gift Boxes to Newark’s 182 sections of kindergarten classrooms during the week of February 28, 2024; and
Whereas, the donation value of the kits for each kindergarten classroom is approximately $9,500. |

Now, Therefore Be It Resolved, the Newark Board of Education accepts the donation of books from AAPI New Jersey in partnership with Audible and their Asians@Audible employee group and intends to comply with the provisions in the award letter. |
