Recommendation to the Board
|
NOW THEREFORE, in lieu of any consideration for the mutual promises and covenants set forth in this MOU, the Board and DEA hereby agree as follows:
SCOPE OF SERVICES:
The DEA recognizes the need to reduce the demand for illicit drugs in our Nation. The DEA’s commitment is implemented through this local partnership by supporting the Newark Public High Schools, and the education and career development of its students, which can be stymied by the use of illicit drugs.
With an emphasis on law enforcement and the mechanisms used by agents to meet their goals, including but not limited to, the use of data and information technology, cyber analysis, and leadership development, the DEA will provide information, lectures, and experiences to assist students in learning about federal law enforcement. The DEA will provide informal advice on potential student curriculum, depending upon a student’s goals, and serve as mentors, providing guidance on careers in law enforcement. The DEA will also share scholarship opportunities both within and outside of the federal government, should they arise, and to the extent possible due to security requirements and program availability, provide experiential learning in the field of federal law enforcement, as well as internship opportunities for high school students in their senior year. Interns would need to be vetted and approved by DEA headquarters and no part of this agreement binds DEA headquarters to agree to such internship.
The high schools in this MOU currently include Newark High School of Data Science and Information Technology, Newark High School of Global Studies, and Barringer High School but additional schools may be added via mutual consent. |
