Summary
:
Whereas, in 2019-2020, Benjamin Franklin Elementary School won a multi-year grant from Newark Trust for Education (NTE) to implement school-wide SEL in partnership with NTE’s technical assistance partner, Nurturing Environments Institute (NEI). NTE seeks to document the SEL initiative at the school in an in-depth manner, through conducting a case study of the school. Benjamin Franklin Elementary School was chosen for its relative strength in Social Emotional Learning(SEL) implementation. The researchers aim to learn from best practices utilized at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School. They hope to capture this by conducting interviews with the SEL Leadership team and a select, representative group of 10-15 teachers and 10-15 parents. The researchers also aim to obtain the student perspective by administering surveys to roughly 100 6th and 7th grade students. Researchers agree to maintain confidentially in accordance with all New Jersey state and federal laws and regulations.
