Summary:
|
WHEREAS, the Newark Board of Education desires to enter into a contract with Montclair State University to build a pathway for future teachers, and teachers of color, by recruiting and supporting Newark Board of Education Teacher Academy students to attend Montclair State University, and ultimately, to enroll in the university’s Teacher Education program, making them eligible to return to teach in their communities; and
WHEREAS, the District’s Teacher Academy is a four-year Career and Technical Education pathway led by the District in partnership with Montclair State University and the American Federation of Teachers offered to students at East Side High School and University High School providing students with the opportunity to earn up to 30 college-credits by enrolling in Montclair State University courses in eleventh and twelfth grade; and
WHEREAS, the District is authorized to enter into an agreement without advertisement with the United States of America, the State of New Jersey, county, or municipality or any board, body, officer, agency authority or board of education or any other state or subdivision thereof in accordance with NJSA 18A:18A-5b; and
WHEREAS, the Newark Board of Education approved the award of contract during the June 18, 2024 Board Meeting for a three (3) year period of September 1, 2024 through August 31, 2027; and
WHEREAS, the Newark Board of Education desires to amend the current contract by modifying three of the ten courses as Montclair State University has updated its general education curriculum; and
WHEREAS, the recommendation for amendment of term contract has been reviewed and approved by Dr. Maria Ortiz, Assistant Superintendent.

Recommendation to the Board:

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Newark Board of Education accepts and approves the amendment of term contract by modifying three of the ten courses for the Montclair State University Red Hawks Rising Dual Enrollment Program for a three (3) year period commencing September 1, 2024, through August 31, 2027 as follows:
Montclair State University, Montclair, NJ at an amount not to exceed $1,486,000.00
