Summary: WHEREAS, Verizon, through its Verizon Innovative Learning (VIL) is an education initiative and has partnered with Digital Promise to provide iPads with Verizon Wireless 5GB LTE data plans for each device, stipends to support a full-time instructional technology coach, and ongoing professional development on how to effectively leverage mobile technology to improve learning to middle school teachers and students throughout the country; and
WHEREAS, Digital Promise has approved the addendum to this grant for three schools in Newark, Dr. Horton School, Hawkins Street School and Hawthorne Avenue School, to continue to participate and partner in the education initiative as part of their Cohort 6 including a research and data collection component to routinely complete surveys and participate in aggregate data collection used to monitor the success of the program.
WHEREAS, the Newark Board of Education will fund the remaining portion of funds for Instructional Technology coaches at each of the three schools; and
WHEREAS, the instructional components of the grant will be managed by the Office of Educational Technology and the infrastructure components will be managed by Information Services; and
WHEREAS, the time period for the addendum to this grant is for the 2021-2023 SY.
Funding : No cost to the District.
Recommendation to the Board: Now therefore, be it resolved that the Newark Board of Education
approves the Memorandum of Understanding with Digital Promise Global.
