Summary:
|
Whereas, School Improvement Grants (SIG), are issued through State educational agencies (SEAs), to local educational agencies (LEAs) for use in schools that demonstrate the greatest need for the funds and the strongest commitment to use the funds to provide adequate resources to raise substantially the achievement of their students in their lowest performing schools; and Whereas, the United States Department of Education approved the New Jersey Department of Education’s request to extend the availability of federal FY-16 School Improvement Grant (SIG) funds. This extension will, in part, allow Avon Avenue School to use its FY-21 SIG carryover; and Whereas, the SIG carryover amount for Avon Avenue School is $391,518 to sustain SIG-related activities as they continue the transition to full-time, in-person instruction through May 15, 2022; and Whereas, the Newark Board of Education will apply for the no-cost extension for Avon Avenue School for the 2021-2022 school year and will support the efforts and implementation of the evidenced-based reform models at each SIG school.
