Summary:
|
Whereas, the primary goal of this study is to explore the effectiveness of integrating formative and culturally responsive assessment practices within small-group literacy instruction in an urban elementary school setting. This research seeks to understand how these innovative approaches can bridge the literacy achievement gap for students from high-poverty communities. Whereas, by examining teacher perceptions and experiences, the study aims to uncover the ways in which culturally aligned assessments enhance literacy engagement and foster equitable learning opportunities. Additionally, the research intends to provide actionable insights that can guide educators and policymakers in implementing more inclusive and effective assessment strategies in diverse classrooms. Whereas, the researcher will use purposive sampling to select participants, specifically targeting teachers from a 3-6 grade (testing grades) population within a Newark Public School, who have experience with small-group literacy instruction and culturally responsive assessment practices. Semi-structured interviews will serve as the primary instrument for data collection, offering open-ended questions designed to elicit detailed and reflective responses. By aligning the study's focus on teacher lived experiences, the selected methodology provides a rich and meaningful exploration of innovative literacy practices in urban schools.
