Priority 2.3 2.3 Develop a cognitive-learning approach to pedagogy and instruction that deepens understanding of the science of learning and centralizes knowledge building as core to improving the academic achievement of all students, including English language learners, students with special needs, and struggling learners.

Summary:

The Newark Board of Education is committed to the continuing improvement of the educational program of the district. Teachers, department chairs, and central office personnel have authored of these ELA Units of Study: Grade 9: The Struggle for Freedom, Grade 10: How We See Things, Grade 11: Building a Democracy, and and Grade 12: Hamlet. These units of study guide are aligned to the New Jersey English Language Art Student Learning Standards, contain unit overviews, lesson plans, and assessments.
