Summary: Whereas, the Teach STEM Classes in Nonpublic Schools grant initiative aims to help schools address the rising costs of STEM education, the growing shortage of qualified STEM teachers in the state, and the need to expand STEM education offerings to all students, helping them prepare for the future; and

Whereas, the Teach STEM Classes in Nonpublic Schools grant has approved Heichal Hatorah in partnership with Charles Galligan and The JEC High School in partnership with Charles Muchira, both employed by the Newark Board of Education; and

Whereas, the Teach STEM Classes in Nonpublic Schools grant has awarded the Newark Board of Education $10,798.08; and

Whereas, the funding will be used to provide compensation to Charles Muchira based on the hourly rate and the total number of hours teaching one or more regular STEM Courses at JEC High School; and

Whereas, the Office of Teaching and Learning, Science Department will oversee the grant; and

Whereas, the grant funding is for the 2021-2022 school year.

Recommendation to the Board: Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved, the Newark Board of Education accepts the grants from the Teach STEM Classes in Nonpublic Schools in the amounts of $10,798.08 and intends to comply with the provisions in the grant award letter.
