Subject: 17.21 Approval of a Memorandum of Understanding between Green Our Planet and the Newark Board of Education

2.1 Develop and implement a pre-K through grade 12 inclusive curricula and assessments that elevate historically marginalized voices, strengthen and sustain a focus on the instructional core, and provide opportunities to learn about perspectives beyond one’s own scope.

2.3 Develop a cognitive-learning approach to pedagogy and instruction that deepens understanding of the science of learning and centralizes knowledge building as core to improving the academic achievement of all students, including English language learners, students with special needs, and struggling learners.

3.4 Establish an array of ongoing and diverse opportunities for staff, parents, students, and partners to plan for strategies to connect learning to students’ lives and promote student learning in the community.

Summary: Whereas, Green Our Planet has agreed to work with Thirteenth Ave School to create and run a GardenConnect and a HyrdroConnect. Whereas, Green Our Planet will train Thirteenth Ave staff in areas of STEM. Students will be asked to take benchmark surveys and teachers will teach STEM lessons once per week and use the outdoor garden. Whereas, Green Our Planet will provide virtual coaching sessions and webinars to teachers and staff and use of their PreK-5 curriculum.
Funding : Thirteenth Ave School will pay $2000.
Green Our Planet will provide $11,500 from grants and sponsorships
Recommendation to the Board: Now therefore, be it resolved that the Newark Board of Education approve this Memorandum of Understanding between Green Our Planet and the Newark Board of Education
