Summary:
|
Whereas, the Cornwall Center at Rutgers-Newark and NBOE agreed to support the Promise Parent Leadership Academy whose goals are:
1) To strengthen reading proficiency for students in Kindergarten through 3rd Grade
2) To improve student’s attitudes toward reading
3) To improve student academic outcomes
4) To promote positive home, school, and community relationships
5) To decrease chronic absenteeism rates and improve school attendance
6) To increase positive parental participation in school
7) To develop a critical mass of informed parents and community residents who can act as advocates for children and schools.
Whereas the program is currently at 13th Ave School and Sussex Ave School and may have the capacity to expand to other locations in the fall;
Whereas, the Cornwall Center will provide ongoing professional development to support the PPLA and recruit participants and continually assess the effectiveness of academic improvement.

Now therefore, be it resolved that the NBOE approve this MOU with Rutgers-Newark Cornwall Center.
