Summary:
|
Whereas, Sustainability means using resources wisely, saving money, and reducing our impact on the environment, all of which will ensure the future health, safety, and prosperity of our children; and Whereas, Newark Board of Education seeks to support and work with school staff and administrators, students and parents to ensure a safe and healthy environment for students by encouraging our school communities to implement sustainable, energy-smart, eco-friendly and cost-effective solution; and Whereas, Newark Board of Education is participating in the Sustainable Jersey for Schools Program; and Whereas, one of the purposes of the Sustainable Jersey for Schools Program is to provide resources to school districts to make progress on sustainability issues, and they have created a grant program called the Sustainable Jersey for Schools Small Grants Program; and Whereas, Sustainable Jersey for Schools intends to award Thirteenth Avenue School a grant in the amount of $10,000 to implement the Sustainable Jersey project Sustainable Garden- Greenhouse Project to construct a greenhouse and a Courtyard Learning Center. The greenhouse will provide students with additional STEAM initiatives and year-round fresh fruits and vegetables. The goals are to create a platform for educational equity with STEAM curriculum and to give students the tools to navigate the Urban Nutrition Desert in the West Ward of Newark.

Now, Therefore Be It Resolved, the Newark Board of Education accepts the $10,000 grant award from Sustainable Jersey for Schools to implement the Sustainable Garden- Greenhouse Project at Thirteenth Avenue School and intends to comply with all requirements, conditions, and requests as set forth in the grant application.
