Summary: Whereas, On July 31, 2018, the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V) was signed into law. It went into effect on July 1, 2019. This law reauthorized the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006 (Perkins IV); and

Whereas, Perkins V is a federal education program that invests in secondary and postsecondary career and technical education (CTE) programs in all 50 states and the territories. It is dedicated to increasing learner access to high-quality CTE programs of study with a focus on program improvement; alignment across grades 5-12, postsecondary and workforce; and economic development; and

Whereas, in accordance with the application spending plan, specific activities will include the following:
a. Increasing the number of students participating in and completing career pathways
b. Converting Programs to Program of Study requirements through curriculum revision
c. Increasing the number of school-based, work-based, and career & post-secondary connecting activities
d. Improved accountability, program assessment, and evaluation
e. Providing professional development for CTE staff
f. Increasing industry partnerships;

Whereas, the State of New Jersey allocated to the Newark Board of Education funds in the amount of $723,829.
Funding : $723,829
Recommendation to the Board: Now, Therefore It Be Resolved, Newark Board of Education accepts the funds for the Carl D. Perkins grant and will adhere to the spending plan under the Carl D. Perkins Education Act of 2006 for FY 2025.
