Summary:
|
For this study, the researchers from Rutgers -Newark University would like to study the efficacy of an online module that allows for joint problem-solving with both students and teachers. The focus of this study is 6th-8th grade students and their teachers. Mathematicians Like Me (MLM) seeks to enhance students’ use of executive functions, conceptual understanding and procedural performance of mathematics in an equitable learning environment. The researchers hope to evaluate the efficacy of this model by administering cognitive assessments to both students and teachers, observing their interactions with the module, interviewing a sample of teachers and students, studying student work, and analyzing their grades and assessment scores. The research sites are Rafael Hernandez ES, Louise Spencer ES and Elliott Street School.
