Summary:
|
WHEREAS, it was determined that the fire alarm system at First Avenue Elementary School suffered a catastrophic system failure which required a complete replacement of the fire alarm system; and
WHEREAS on January 22, 2025 in accordance with N.J.S.A. 18A:18A-7, the Superintendent issued a declaration of emergency to address the health and safety concerns. On March 6, 2025, the Essex County Superintendent issued a letter concurring with the decision of Superintendent León; and
WHEREAS, a proposal submitted by Open Systems Integrators was approved to perform the necessary fire alarm replacement at First Avenue Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, purchase order 25-0016679 was issued in the amount of $531,643.89 for replacement of the fire alarm system at First Avenue Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, the action taken for fire alarm replacement at First Avenue Elementary School was reviewed and approved by Carlos Edmundo, Acting Executive Director of Facilities Management and Krystle Whitlock, Assistant School Business Administrator.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Newark Board of Education accepts and approves the action taken to address the health and safety concerns and approves the issuance of an emergency contract for fire alarm replacement at First Avenue Elementary School.
