Summary:
|
WHEREAS, pursuant to NJSA 18A:39-1, the District is required to provide transportation to and from school to elementary school pupils who live more than two miles from their public school of attendance or secondary school pupils who live more than two and a half miles from their public school of attendance; and
WHEREAS, the New Jersey Department of Education Division of Early Childhood Education Preschool Education Aid authorizes the District to allocate funds for transportation of resident preschoolers who are not eligible for transportation services; and
WHEREAS, the District is authorized to enter into an agreement without advertisement with the United States of America, the State of New Jersey, county or municipality or any board, body, officer, agency authority or board of education or any other state or subdivision thereof in accordance with NJSA 18A:18A-5b; and
WHEREAS, the purchase order for bus tickets will serve as the contract between the parties as New Jersey Transit is a state agency; and
WHEREAS, the recommendation to purchase bus tickets was approved by Quanika Dukes-Spruill, Executive Director of Pupil Transportation and Yolanda Severe, Executive Director of Early Childhood.

Recommendation to the Board:

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Newark Board of Education authorizes the District to purchase bus tickets from the New Jersey Transit agency for transportation of eligible students and preschool parents for one year from date of approval at a cost not to exceed three million six hundred twenty thousand dollars ($3,620,000.00).
EXPLANATION: To provide bus tickets for eligible students and parents during the 2021-2022 school year. Subject to the availability of funds.
