Summary:
|
WHEREAS, the Newark Board of Education has committed itself to providing educational student services and experiences that will enrich and enhance students’ knowledge and skill development for alignment with New Jersey Student Learning Standards, as well as enhancing critical thinking and oral presentation skills; and
WHEREAS, the District has sponsored/supported policy debate, Lincoln-Douglas debate and speech teams for over twenty years, and during that time students have garnered numerous titles in the various divisions of speech and debate; and
WHEREAS, these activities are considered to be educational services, sporting events/competitions and do not represent employees’ meetings, conferences or workshops; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with NJSA 18A:18A-5a (5) the District is authorized to enter into a contract without public advertisement for library and educational goods and services; and
WHEREAS, the contract term shall not exceed a one (1) year period of September 1, 2021 through August 31, 2022; and
WHEREAS, the recommendation for award of term contract has been reviewed and approved by Dr. Mary Ann Reilly, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Newark Board of Education accepts and approves the contract for Student Debate Educational Services for student participation in tournaments, educational student services, and award ceremonies from September 1, 2021 through August 31, 2022 as follows:
Focus Hispanic Center for Community Development dba Newark Debate Academy, Newark, NJ at an amount not to exceed
$273,500.00
EXPLANATION: To provide educational debate student services. Subject to the availability of funds.
