Summary: WHEREAS, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has provided updated guidance for fully vaccinated people and recommendations, and additional guidance regardless of vaccination status; and

WHEREAS, the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) and New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) have issued health and safety guidance for the 2021-2022 school year; and

WHEREAS, the New Jersey Department of Health maintains an online “Data Dashboard” to provide the public with important information about the virus that is updated on a daily basis, including COVID-19 cases involving students and school staff; and

WHEREAS, the Newark Board of Education’s Safe Return Plan outlines health and safety protocols to serve the health and safety needs of district students, staff, and families; and

WHEREAS, a “data dashboard” on the district website provides the community with current in-school transmission data about the COVID-19 virus; and

WHEREAS the district has established an online “data dashboard” available on the district’s website and easily accessible and viewable via mobile phones to share current COVID-19 information with students, parents and the community;

Recommendation to the Board: NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Newark Board of Education recognizes that:

1. The data dashboard shall be active and updated in accordance with reporting guidelines. The data reported via the dashboard shall include, but not be limited to, the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases among students and the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases among staff. All case counts shall be disaggregated at the school and district level;
2. The district shall continue to comply with all current and future health and safety guidance regarding the COVID-19 pandemic;
3. The district shall continue to provide free personal and protective equipment (“PPE”), as defined by the CDC, to all students and staff in the district on a daily basis throughout the 2021-2022 school year, as needed.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Superintendent shall continue to engage students, families and the community at large throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and continue to be as responsive as possible to their needs for public information to help ensure the safety of all individuals in school.

Member Asia J. Norton Moved, Member Josephine Garcia seconded to approve the Original motion 'NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Newark Board of Education recognizes that:

1. The data dashboard shall be active and updated in accordance with reporting guidelines. The data reported via the dashboard shall include, but not be limited to, the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases among students and the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases among staff. All case counts shall be disaggregated at the school and district level;
2. The district shall continue to comply with all current and future health and safety guidance regarding the COVID-19 pandemic;
