Summary: Whereas this Memorandum of Understanding outlines a partnership between the Newark Board of Education and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) through the Band Together Program, benefiting students in grades 5-10 who have an overall interest in learning a band instrument. Students will receive weekly lessons in music theory, instrumental technique, and ensemble participation on Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM at Arts High School, with the program running from October 2024 to May 2025. Approximately 100 students will participate in two instructional levels (beginner and intermediate) and gain exposure to jazz through collaboration with NJPAC's TD Jazz for Teens program. The partnership includes joint events, such as a culminating concert and guest artist workshops, at no cost to the District.

Recommendation to the Board: Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Newark Board of Education approves this Memorandum of Understanding between the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) and the Newark Board of Education.
