Summary:
|
WHEREAS, the Newark Board of Education currently utilizes and desires continue to utilize Rutgers the State University/ University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC) to provide mental health services for various district students and families; and WHEREAS, UBHC has partnered with the Office of Special Education to develop prevention and intervention strategies that promote academic and life success for all students. Specifically, UBHC helps to identify and intervene during early stages of problematic behavior and assist parents and school personnel in developing comprehensive strategies for addressing these behaviors. The program offers a full range of services for students who need intensive support including a full-day program, partial day, or after school for children. Referrals are accepted for a range of presenting problems, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, reactions to stress and trauma, attention difficulties, learning difficulties, behavior problems, and social skills problems; and WHEREAS, the District is authorized to enter into an agreement without advertisement with the United States of America, the State of New Jersey, county or municipality or any board, body, officer, agency authority or board of education or any other state or subdivision thereof in accordance with NJSA 18A:18A-5b; and WHEREAS, the contract shall not exceed a one (1) year period commencing November 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022; and WHEREAS, the recommendation for award of term contract has been reviewed and approved by Marilyn Mitchell, Director of Special Education.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Newark Board of Education hereby accepts and approves the award of contract for Mental Health Services commencing November 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022, as follows: Rutgers University UBHC, Newark, NJ at a cost not to exceed $146,800.00 EXPLANATION: To develop prevention and intervention strategies that promote academic and life success for students. Subject to availability of funds.
