Summary:
|
WHEREAS, on March 9, 2020, the Governor issued Executive Order 103 declaring a State of Emergency and a Public Health Emergency as a result of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic; and
WHEREAS, the Newark Board of Education previously advertised and awarded contracts for Cafeteria Food Items to produce in-house breakfast and lunch for students; however, due to COVID-19 supply chain hardships and staffing matters prepared meals are now required to ensure students of the Newark Board of Education receive a balanced and nutritious breakfast and lunch; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with N.J.S.A 18A:18A-7 and §200.320(f)2 the COVID-19 public exigency will not permit a delay resulting from formal competitive solicitations; and
WHEREAS, the Newark Board of Education solicited quotations from multiple vendors and selected the finalist identified below as the best qualified vendors based on their ability to service the District; and
WHEREAS, the action taken to purchase these necessary prepared meals and utensils was reviewed and approved by Dr. Tonya McGill, Executive Director of Food and Nutrition Services.

Recommendation to the Board:

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Newark Board of Education hereby accepts and approves the action taken for purchasing prepared meals and utensils to ensure the students of the Newark Board of Education receive a balanced and nutritious breakfast and lunch from September 17, 2021 through June 30, 2022 as follows:
A. Uline Inc, Breinigsville, PA at a cost not to exceed $126,929.22
B. Whitsons Food Service Bronx Corp, Islandia, NY at a cost not to exceed $3,872,384.40
EXPLANATION: To provide prepared meals and utensils to ensure the students of the Newark Board of Education receive a balanced and nutritious breakfast and lunch.
