Summary:
|
Esports officially stands for electronic sports, not to be confused with video games. Esports are organized competitive gameplay between two teams, governed by its own strict set of rules and guidelines. They develop students’ science, technology, engineering and mathematics skills. In addition to participating in matches, esports players spend hours analyzing game statistics and testing various gaming strategies. For students who are also interested in working “behind the scenes,” there are also opportunities to learn about video editing, graphic design, and computer networking.
The Loyalty Foundation has agreed to build an Esports program at Newark School of Data Science and Technology High School focusing on sports-based games. The Loyalty Foundation's staff has the education, certification, training and work experience in this area and will work with the Director of Educational Technology and the Director of Athletics in the selection of esports, development of teams, and sports calendar.
Although two high schools have been selected initially, the addition of other district high schools is possible in subsequent years.

Now therefore, be it resolved that the Newark Board of Education approve this Memorandum of Understanding with the Loyalty Foundation.
