Summary: Whereas, Newark Board of Education was awarded $24,000,
$12,000 per year for the next two years, funding period July 1, 2024- June 30,2026, from Rutgers Equity Alliance for Community Health (REACH) Community Academic Grants Program. The total REACH grant is $100,000, the remaining $76,000 will be managed by Rutgers; and


Whereas, the grant will promote equitable speech & language services provision for culturally and linguistically diverse students in the Newark Board of Education schools; and


Whereas, the grant will address immediate district needs by providing professional development and training to staff, and co-developing a multicultural resource library that will include culturally and linguistically appropriate tools for more accurate identification of language and literacy disorders, as well as inclusive books and curricular materials as informed by our findings; and


Whereas, the grant aims to empower select SLSs by offering a pilot training program in culturally-responsive service delivery and peer leadership, thus ensuring the sustainability of the recommended practices.

Recommendation to the Board: Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved, the Newark Board of Education accepts the Rutgers Equity Alliance for Community Health (REACH)
Community Academic Grant from Rutgers University in the amount of $24,000 and agrees to accept and comply with all guidelines set forth in the grant.
