Summary:

Whereas, Newark Mentoring Movement, Inc., is a nonprofit organization with a mission to create joy by enabling students to grow and reach their full potential, supported by a culture of mentoring; create purpose-driven mentors through training and development of mentoring partner organization; create opportunity with corporate, university, and community partners, by enabling new spaces and experiences for students to expand their horizons and opportunity; and Whereas, Newark Mentoring Movement, Inc. has been awarded a congressionally funded earmark project as part of the Future Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024. This funding has been designated specifically for a school-based mentoring initiative aimed at supporting the students and educators within the Newark Board of Education schools; and Whereas, as part of this initiative, Newark Mentoring Movement, Inc. plans to build on its current relationship with the Newark Board of Education to enhance and accelerate the creation of a sustainable mentoring culture across the schools as indicated in the NBOE 10 year strategic plan. To facilitate this, Newark Mentoring Movement, Inc. will dedicate $60,000 of the allocated Future Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024 earmark funds to establish the position of Director of Mentoring Services; and Whereas, Newark Mentoring Movement, Inc. is requesting that a formal MOU between the Newark Board of Education and Newark Mentoring Movement, Inc. be executed that clearly defines the details of the hybrid position of Director of Mentoring Services including job description, salary, candidate selection and interview process, work hours and location, benchmarks, direct report, professional development and training commitments, agreed upon deliverables, and evaluations. |

Now, Therefore Be It Resolved, the Newark Board of Education will accept the $60,000 from Newark Mentoring Movement Inc. to establish a mentoring position and will adhere to the provisions in the partnership agreement. |
