2.3 Develop a cognitive-learning approach to pedagogy and instruction that deepens understanding of the science of learning and centralizes knowledge building as core to improving the academic achievement of all students, including English language learners, students with special needs, and struggling learners.

Summary: Whereas, the Newark Board of Education is committed to the continuing improvement of the educational program of the district; and Whereas teachers and central office personnel have authored Grades 3-5 ELA and Social Studies curriculum guides that provide a year-long overview, alignment to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards by subject area, differentiation plans, unit plans, and assessments.
Funding : No cost to district.
Recommendation to the Board: BE IT RESOLVED that the Newark Board of Education approve the Grades 3-5 ELA and Social Studies curriculum guides.
