Summary: This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is being entered into
agreement between Howard University (HU) and the Newark
Board of Education (NBOE) for the 2021-2022 school year to
facilitate a dual enrollment program to permit high-achieving Newark Board of Education (NBOE) students currently attending Central High School and University High School, to earn college credit from Howard University.

The purpose of this MOU is to formalize a partnership that would
facilitate a dual enrollment program that would permit high achieving NBOE students to earn college credit
from Howard University.
Funding : $16,000 for SY 2021-2022;10-11190-100-320-456-000-000
Recommendation to the Board: Whereas, Howard University has agreed to be the first Historical Black University to provide dual enrollment courses in the subject areas of Sociology and Social Justice; and

Whereas this MOU will be in effect for the 2021-22 school year; and

Whereas all students will remain under the care and supervision of a staff member of University High School and Central High School during the duration of the program and until students are in the custody of their parents/guardians; and

Whereas the High School Leadership Team will oversee the dual enrollment program; and


Now, Therefore, be it resolved that the Newark Board of Education
approves this MOU between Howard University and Newark Board of Education at Central High School and University High School.
